The transition from years of film based photography has taken a lot of time, reading and mistakes. Michael Reichmann's Luminous Landscape (www.luminous-landscape.com) is a treasure trove of advice for those wanting to understand how to build an end to end digital workflow. I found the videos that Michael made with Jeff Schewe to be of great practical help though Jeff recently expressed some doubt whether that could really be true. Jeff, it really was.....
I have long admired the work of Rick Tomlinson who is one of the world's great sailing photographers and I was lucky enough to meet him and get him to shoot a series of picture of my boat on a windy, sunny day in September on the Solent. www.rick-tomlinson.com
Phase One (www.phaseone.com) is winning a reputation as the leading manufacturer of digital backs. This now extends to close co-operation with Mamiya and Leaf and their RAW processing software Capture One is widely admired. The images on this site of Death Valley in California were shot in November 2009 as part of PODAS. PODAS was a Phase One run event for 25 professional and non-professional photographers over four and a half days in the heart of death Valley. Apart from giving participants access to Phase One equipment it also gave participants a sense of the passion and focus of the company on excellence in imaging. For more information see the PODAS blog at http://podas.info/ . All the Death Valley images were shot with a Phase One P65+ back and the Phase One 645DF.
My first exhibition in June 2009 came about from a chance meeting with David Paynter in late 2008. We had worked together many years ago and he has become an extraordinary sculptor. His work can be seen at the Artful Gallery. (www.theartfulgallery.co.uk)
